“The story of On The Sun [is one] of artistic collaboration and persistence on every level of the musical process. […] There’s a decidedly metropolitan, New York-Y sound and feel here that is true to On The Sun’s roots. While listening, […] one may be prone to see flashes of blurred traffic lights, streets and sidewalks, like a sped up film of NYC turning from day to night.” -JUDE WARNE, LIVE FOR LIVE MUSIC
“On The Sun feels the music. Every note they play, they live it. […] When you watch this band, it doesn’t feel like you’re watching, but rather that you’re part of the group.” -Parisa Mahdad, KINOFILIA ARTS BLOG
On The Sun makes sleek and modern groove music steeped in classic and contemporary soul, funk, americana, and R&B. Since its inception this simmering soul juggernaut has issued a debut LP; a vibrant version of Leonard Cohen’s “Bird On A Wire”; the standalone single, “She Gets Around”, and spent the majority of 2018 touring in support of their latest effort Gratuity Not Included, appearing at a variety of music festivals including performances at SXSW, the Ann Arbor Summer Festival, Off The Record Fest and Sail Across The Sun. The group has also cultivated a close relationship with Sofar Sounds resulting in a series of intimate concerts across the country.
Up next, On The Sun will issue a vinyl version of Gratuity Not Included, a collection of live tracks from recent tours, and another as-yet untitled collection of new music in 2019. The band just wrapped up a month-long west coast/southwest tour and is currently on an extensive midwest tour including shows in Detroit, Chicago, Nashville and many more. Nadim Azzam
Nadim Azzam brings his passion as a lyricist, MC, guitarist, and soul singer to 20 Front Street. At 24, this young Ann Arborite built a name with his heartfelt, rap-laced solo acoustic set, and has been amassing a national following in love with his rapidfire hip-hop delivery fused with the sincerity of a 50’s lovesong balladeer. His original music is a hip-hop, alt rock, jazz fusion that uplifts and inspires, bringing that feel-good, smile worthy element found in Ed Sheeran, Michael Franti, and G Love & The Special Sauce. His powerful debut EP Here’s to Changes Vol. 1 already landed him a nationwide campus tour with Matisyahu. Nadim is currently working on his first full-length album expected in 2020.
