“If you don’t believe an acoustic solo performance can fill a room with raw power, elegance and intelligence concurrently, you haven’t experienced Diana Chittester”
– Jennifer Conn (The Devil Strip)
DIANA CHITTESTER is known for her signature percussive “guitar acrobatics” (Buffalo ArtVoice), bold vocals, and “intelligent and articulate lyrics” (Music Connection Magazine).
Born the daughter of a minister, Diana Chittester was on track to become an English teacher until she purchased a used copy of Ani DiFranco’s Living In Clip with her last $11 while in college. Inspired by the passion and truth DiFranco brought to her music, Diana set out on the path of “fiercely independent musician.”
Coming out to her conservative family at the age of 21 forced Chittester to turn to her own songwriting to deal with issues of isolation, religious struggle and personal relationships. Her music became personal testimonies on issues many try to deal with privately.
Taking to the stage as a solo performer for most of her early career, Diana began to develop a unique multi-part playing style when she imitated a 3-piece band on a solo acoustic guitar. Percussive thumping, popping bass lines and melodic picking patterns became a signature sound that elevated Chittester from bars and coffee shops to folk clubs and Performing Arts Centers.
Diana has opened for artists’ Lisa Loeb, Joan Osborne, LP, Kim Richey, Colin Hay, Chris Trapper, Melissa Ferrick, and Royal Wood; and also headlines shows at Music Box Supper Club, Club Cafe, Rockwood Music Hall, and PAC’s throughout Ohio.
